Just One Day Away!
Hello Steel City Hackers! We hope you are as excited as we are that Steel City Hacks is only 24 hours away. We're excited to share all the information you'll need to participate in our ideathon and optional events in this email, so please read it in its entirety!
All Zoom links referenced in this email are available in a master doc here.
Event Information:
Our event will begin with a kickoff ceremony at this Zoom link at 10:00 AM on Saturday, 4/30. Attendance is not mandatory, but we strongly suggest that you attend, as our judges will be introducing themselves and we will be discussing information about project submissions and the event. It's also a great chance to see everyone you'll be working with and competing against!
Please register for workshop opportunities using this Google form link, and attend them using the meeting links on our master doc. If the link to a workshop isn't available, don't worry! It'll be posted before the timeslot begins.
Programming change: Due to a last-minute emergency, our Intermediate Python workshop at 2:30-4:00 PM on Saturday has been canceled. Apologies to any registrants.
Project Information:
If you are still looking for a team member, please join our Discord and check out the #looking-for-team channel to find teammates, or use Devpost's email feature in the Participants list. Teams will not be automatically assigned and you are responsible for finding a team prior to submission (Devpost handles the whole team process).
We want to emphasize how important the components of your Devpost submission are. We'll talk more about this at our opening ceremony, but:
- Prepare to create a pitch (ideally in video form) that explains your project, project vision, and demonstrates your code in action (code only necessary in the Apprentice and Hacker tiers)
- Submit all of your code via a file upload or GitHub repo link. This code should be easy for the judges to run: submit executables, attach comprehensive installation/setup instructions, and do not use obscure IDEs or languages. Ensure that setting up your project on a local machine is extremely easy so you don't lose points for having code that doesn't run!
Judges:
We're so excited to introduce our full final panel of judges for Steel City Hacks!
- Martin Shepherd, the CEO of Arch Access Control
- Ben Humberston, a software engineer at Meta
- Pedro Barelli, the VP of Consulting Services at CGI
- Beth Bujak, a senior consultant at CGI
- Dr. Nitin Hattagandy, an engineering manager at Northrop Grumman
Some of our judges will be attending our kickoff and awards ceremony meetings, so be sure to meet them there!
Thank you for reading through this rather lengthy email. We're extremely excited to see you all at our events, and look forward to viewing your incredible submissions.
Get hyped!!
- Steel City Hacks team
